Our Team & Story
over 75 years
Since 1947 Wilson & Proctor has grown from a small Victoria engine shop into a trusted Vancouver Island company.
We are a family-owned Vancouver Island business built on experience, accountability, and long-term relationships. Customers come here for practical knowledge, straightforward service, and a team that understands how important reliability is when equipment, vehicles, or power systems cannot afford to sit idle.
That combination of heritage, technical depth, and local accountability is what makes the business stand out.

OuR history
A Company Built to Last
Wilson & Proctor was founded in 1947 by Fred Proctor Sr. and Howard Wilson.
What began in a small shop on Tulip Avenue in Victoria quickly outgrew its original home, and by early 1948 the company had moved to Wharf Street in downtown Victoria. In those early years, the business focused on the engines of the day: Hercules, Hall Scott, Model A Fords, Flat Head Fords, International Red Diamond, White, GMC, and Waukesha.
This built the technical foundation that still defines the company today.

TRUSTED LOCAL SERVICE
Growing with the Industry
As diesel engines became the standard in logging, marine, and commercial transport, Wilson & Proctor grew with the industries it served.
During the 1950s and 1960s, the company became known across Vancouver Island for diesel engine rebuilding and fuel injection system repairs.
In 1957, Wilson & Proctor became a Cummins Engine dealer.

By the end of the 1960s, the company had once again outgrown its Wharf Street location, prompting the move to a new shop at 808 Devonshire Road in Esquimalt, which opened in 1973.
Milestones
In the 1970s and 1980s
Wilson & Proctor continued to build its reputation in diesel engine repair and rebuilding. The company became an official Detroit Diesel dealer in 1988 and expanded into general truck repair in the early 1990s, becoming an International Truck dealer in 1995.
In 2000
Fred Proctor’s grandson, Fred Proctor, became president of the company. Each step in that journey reflects the same pattern: the business has changed with the times, but it has never lost its local roots or its commitment to doing the job right.
