{"id":10865,"date":"2013-07-05T21:39:02","date_gmt":"2013-07-05T21:39:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.brainstreams.ca\/football-powerhouse-nebraska-tackles-concussions-with-new-technology\/"},"modified":"2025-07-04T09:16:58","modified_gmt":"2025-07-04T16:16:58","slug":"football-powerhouse-nebraska-tackles-concussions-with-new-technology","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/messageinabottle.ca\/bcbia\/football-powerhouse-nebraska-tackles-concussions-with-new-technology\/","title":{"rendered":"Football powerhouse Nebraska tackles concussions with new technology"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"field field-type-link field-field-link-original-article\">LINCOLN, Neb. \u2014\u00a0If all goes according to Dennis Molfese\u2019s plan, the day is coming when a football player who takes a hit to the head will come to the sideline, take off his helmet and slip on an electrode-covered mesh cap.<\/div>\n<p>The team\u2019s medical staff will analyze the player\u2019s brain waves on the spot and determine within minutes whether he can safely return to the game or whether he has a concussion and, if so, how severe it is.<\/p>\n<p>Putting the finishing touches on that device is among the projects planned in the University of Nebraska\u2019s Center for Brain, Biology and Behavior, which opens this month in Memorial Stadium\u2019s newly expanded east side.<\/p>\n<p>CB3, as it\u2019s called, is housed in the same $55-million structure that holds 38 luxury suites and an additional 6,000 seats for the football stadium.
